What You Really Need to Know About Crypto Taxes – In this course I will walk you through all of the different ways that crypto is (or isn’t) taxed, show you how to report it on your tax return, and go over various tax-planning strategies you can use to reduce your taxes. We will go over trading, selling, spending, buying, transferring, lending, defi, mining, forks, airdrops, staking, masternodes, income, gifting, donating, token swaps, lost coins, like-kind exchanges, margin trading, 1099s, consolidating your records, reconciliation, missing records, tax notices and letters, FBARs, loss harvesting, accounting methods, retirement, tax tables, and more! I provide a ton of examples to help you understand all of the tax impacts, and demonstrate how your day to day decisions may impact your taxes in the long run.

I may be biased, but learning the accounting involved to calculate your gains and losses for your tax return is a very useful skill. Crypto is unique in that unlike stocks, you don’t receive a 1099-B at the end of the year from Fidelity or Vanguard telling you exactly what your gains and losses were at the end of the year. When it comes to accounting for your crypto transactions, the responsibility is on you to keep track of everything, and you are the one who will need to provide documentation to the IRS if you are ever audited.

In this course I am not going to be walking you through all of the crypto tax laws, because my other course already does that. If you are unfamiliar with how crypto is taxed, I recommend that you watch that course first, but if you feel like you understand the tax laws but just don’t know how to take the data from all of your exchanges and wallets and put it together to calculate the actual number that you will report on your tax return, then you’re in the right place.

In this course I am going to be teaching you how to use Cointracking… How to REALLY use Cointracking. If you haven’t heard of Cointracking yet, it was one of the first crypto tax softwares to market and it is the software that I exclusively use for all of my clients.

I will be the first to admit that it’s not perfect, and sometimes Cointracking gets a bad wrap because there is a little bit of a learning curve involved to properly use it, but it has been a really helpful tool for me, so I wanted to create this course to teach you everything that I had to learn from trial and error after using it almost every single day for the past year. So far, I have prepared over 100 crypto gain/loss reports using Cointracking, and honestly, I have seen it all. I have worked with clients who have just a couple hundred trades, and I have worked with clients who have over 100,000 trades. I have worked with clients who have complete and perfect data and some who have lost half of their data or aren’t able to access it anymore, and Cointracking has worked for all of them.

I am not being paid by Cointracking to make this course, and I have no relationship with them, but I am telling you that I have tried about 20 other crypto tax softwares and through all of my tests, this one has been the best so far in terms of prices, features, and usability.

In this course I will teach you how to upload data from exchanges, how to enter forks, airdrops, and ICOs, how to upload data from exchanges or wallets that are not supported by Cointracking, how to enter gifts, mining income, spends, and over the counter purchases, how to match up prices, common errors to look out for, how to review your data and make sure your data balances, how to pull the gain loss report and report it correctly on your tax return, and then how to interpret the data and use it to your advantage so you can make smart trades and not have any surprises when it comes to tax time.

If you don’t have a Cointracking account yet, you can go to cryptotaxgirl.com/cointracking to get 10% off, so create your account and let’s get started!

Don’t just take my word for it, see what other students had to say about the course:

As a CPA that specializes solely in cryptocurrency, I get hundreds of emails per week with questions on how cryptocurrency is taxed, and the impact that various types of transactions can have on your tax return. Because crypto is a relatively new asset class, there is limited tax guidance, and there lots of articles out there with conflicting information, it can seem confusing to navigate, but my goal is to make cryptocurrency taxation easy to understand.

Most people don’t think about taxes until tax time; however, almost every time you engage with crypto, there is some sort of tax consequence with it. On top of that, the majority of cryptocurrency transactions are self-reported, meaning that you have to calculate the gains, losses, income, etc. by yourself. Crypto is a pretty unique asset when it comes to the tax code, and requires a lot more work when it comes to reporting compared to traditional investments, so if you are going to hold crypto, understanding the tax consequences is key.

In this course I will walk you through all of the different ways that crypto is (or isn’t) taxed, show you how to report it correctly on your tax return, and go over various tax-planning strategies you can use to reduce your taxes. We will go over:

You will also walk away with various tax-planning strategies that you can implement alongside your trading strategies, in order to get the most out of your crypto.
